Instructional Reunion

posted Apr 15, 2017, 6:58 AM by Seth Trujillo

We had an amazing weekend! I'm sure you have had some ups and downs since. I imagine our Neal 37 men have encountered the same, perhaps even more so. Continue to keep them in your prayers. Also, I want to remind everyone we have the instructional reunion coming up in one week.

What:
Instructional Reunion
Where:
TDCJ Neal Unit
9005 Spur 951
Amarillo, TX 79107
When:
7:45am-Noonish*
Saturday, April 22nd 2017
*Bonus:
For those who want to join us in fellowship before the reunion, meet at the Donut Stop located at I-40 and Grand between 6:45 and 7am. While the Instructional Reunion is limited to our men, the fellowship at Donut Stop is open to all.

Bring your ID, keys, and optionally bring you Freedom Guide. If joining for fellowship at Donut Stop, bring payment for donuts and/or coffee. Leave your cell phones, knives, and such at home or out of sight in your vehicle.

Future Reunions will be on the 3rd Saturday of each month. In July we will have a 2 day reunion on Saturday and Sunday on the 15th and 16th. If you are like me, you likely serve at your church and may need to ask for that Sunday off in advance.

Prayers Needed ASAP

posted Mar 31, 2017, 10:08 AM by Seth Trujillo

Team,
Satan has been attacking our ministry for a while. We have likely all seen this in our lives. I also believe we have been doing a great job praying for and supporting each other. Now the enemy is attacking those that are close to our team. Please pray for the families, loved ones, friends, and church families of our team. I know God has big plans for this Kairos because the enemy is trying so hard to oppose it.

Countdown to Neal 37

posted Mar 30, 2017, 2:33 PM by Seth Trujillo

Team,
You should have received the name of the person(s) you should be praying for. If you were not at the team meeting Saturday and haven't received your assignment from me in the mail, please let me know. I updated a few mailing addresses after the meeting so that means at least 2-3 of you had the mail go to a previous address.

I am attaching a Countdown. This will give you, your souse(if they aren't on the team and you actually have one), and your closing guests(if you invited some).

I am also attaching what we handed out at the first team meeting. It has what to bring with you to De Falco. I'll go ahead and list what I usually bring.

  1. Drinks and snacks for the evenings(I will bring some sodas and chips). Please bring your favorite for us to all share.
  2. Changes of clothes for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday(plus an extra set that I never use).
  3. PJs I can wear walking around in the evening.
  4. toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant
  5. phone and phone charger (use in the evenings to send texts and check to see if anyone else signed up to pray for the weekend)
  6. Emmaus cross and lanyard to wear on Sunday
  7. Kairos Name Badge
  8. 2 pairs of shoes plus some $0.99 flip flops to shower in
  9. My 42 agape letters with 50 or so envelopes (the ones you don't have to lick to close)
  10. 2 pens that match what I wrote my letters with
  11. my medicine
  12. my own comfy pillow
Other Optional Things That I Don't Bring But You Can:
  1. soft toilet paper
  2. towels
  3. blanket
  4. ear plugs (if you know you snore, maybe buy some as agape for your roommate)
  5. makeup(for our ladies)
  6. razor and shaving cream(believe it or not, I actually do own these items)
  7. hair brush(Nick and I haven't had to use these things in years)
  8. shampoo and conditioner(I use the stuff de falco provides but my wife always brings nice ones) and body soap
  9. gas money for the way home, because you never know

Omelets, Biscuits, Sausage, Gravy, Fruit

Neal 37 Team,
Last night I had a dream I went to prison, not to minister but as punishment for a crime. It was a scary experience. Everyone seemed to have an advantage over me, even the other inmates. To keep this email short, I won't go into all the details. However, in my dream I was an inmate when the Neal 37 team had their Kairos weekend in the unit. I wasn't actually a participant on the weekend, but seeing your faces gave me hope. I knew everything was going to be okay. I still had to stay in prison, but somehow things were better as hope arrived with the Kairos team.
After spending today thinking about this dream, here is what I know:
1) Neal 37 will happen, even if I'm not here. You are the team, I'm blessed to be along for the ride.
2) God is in control, not us.
3) Our team has a bigger impact that just those participants who get to be on the Kairos weekend. Only a few men in white get to go on a Kairos weekend, but the impact of a Kairos weekend ripples throughout the unit and eternity.
4) I'm reminded of our verse. All of us, like sheep have strayed away. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the sins of us all. And that says it all, doesn't it?

Saturday we will have our 4th team meeting. This is NOT a team training. Sure, training may happen, but that's not the point of these meetings. These are team building meetings to bring our team, Neal 37, together as one. When we go into Neal, we go in unified. We can not do this effectively if we are not at the team meetings. (Plus I genuinely miss you when you aren't there.) Our focus for this team meeting is Encountering Others. We will begin with a fundraiser for Kairos Torch. They are making omelets, biscuits, sausage, and gravy with a fruit tray. Be there at 7:45 to get breakfast before we start the meeting. Bring your notebooks, street weekend cross if you have one, and a big appetite!  For lunch we are doing a potluck. Bring your favorite dish. TX Food Handlers Certificate

posted Feb 18, 2017, 3:59 PM by Seth Trujillo

As part of our agreement with De Falco, anyone in the kitchen will have a Texas Food Handlers Certificate. We have a few options. If you get a food handlers certificate from an online course, make sure it says it is a TEXAS food handlers certificate. I looked online today and found several websites that have both the food handlers certificate and TEXAS food handlers certificate. Be sure you have the TEXAS one. Below are some options:

This one is $10 and has no test.

This one is $8 and you pay after passing the test.

This one is $7 but make sure you get the Texas course.

This one is $8 and can mail you your certificate for an additional $5 if you don't have a printer.

And if you prefer an offline, in person training, then go to the Simms Building at 808 S. Buchanan St. in Amarillo, TX. Upon completion of the class and a passing grade on the exam you get your certificate. They offer classes on first and last Friday of every month. The cost is $20.

Potluck Team Meeting

posted Feb 13, 2017, 7:31 PM by Seth Trujillo

Neal 37 Team,
Thank you so much for giving of yourselves. It is truly humbling to serve with yall. A few minutes ago, I was mailing out the devotion for tomorrow. It spoke of agape love versus eros love. I must be honest; my selfishness has me giving at times out of eros. I like my "atta boys" and pats on the back. It makes me feel good. Please keep me in your prayers. I ask that God change my heart to love selflessly as Jesus does.

I am excited for our next team meeting! We will begin the day at 7:45am with Kairos Torch serving us breakfast. If the Lord leads you, bring green agape(cash) to support their program. Our focus for our fourth team meeting will be Encountering Others. This seems like the perfect time to have a potluck lunch!

We can all sign up for what we are bringing. This will keep us from getting 30 buckets of chicken and no desserts 😉

Our Kitchen Team Leader, Jerry Potter, will help keep things warm or cold as needed.

Reminder and Team Meeting 1/28

posted Jan 22, 2017, 6:29 PM by Seth Trujillo

Neal Kairos Community,

Yesterday God reminded me of why we serve in Kairos. A Kairos Graduate shared part of his story with me. He came into prison preaching and spewing hatred and separation. He had his Bible ready to throw it in the trash when He came to Kairos. God changed his life. God changed his outlook. And God changed his separation. He found his home at Prayer and Share with a table full of another skin color. These were people he would have never been around prior to meeting Christ. And these are the people God chose to make his community. These men bonded in Christ and are now discipline other men in the faith.

I am looking forward to spending time with our team Saturday, January 28th. Same as last time we will have coffee at 7:45am. We will be going over the schedule and events happening on Friday. Our theme for this meeting is Encountering Self. Bring your notebooks from the 1st team meeting. We will be reviewing some of this material again, especially the Kairos Riverbanks and Agape handouts. Also bring your completed Team Application. You can print one from http://www.kairosneal.org/events-calendar/weekends/weekend-37/kairos37news/kairos37infokairos36reunion

Kairos 37 Info & Kairos 36 Reunion

posted Jan 15, 2017, 4:33 PM by Seth Trujillo   [ updated Jan 15, 2017, 4:35 PM ]

Neal Kairos Community,
Yesterday's team meeting went great. Ray Saavedra taught us about the mission of Kairos. Bryan Oliver showed us how a vision is seeing the end result of a mission as if it is already completed. The picture he created for us with his words was encouraging. It is a vision we can all get on board with. Several people shared their experience and wisdom. That's what is so great team meetings. New people are learning things for the first time. Kairos Veterans share their wisdom and experience. Those who have been on just a few Kairos weekends get to learn and share. It is such a blessing to be part of this community, no matter your season of  life.
Our scripture for Kairos 37 is Isaiah 53:6.
All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.
We have left God’s paths to follow our own.
Yet the Lord laid on him
    the sins of us all.

If you weren't at the meeting yesterday, but want to be part of our Kairos 37 team, please print the attached team application, fill it out, and return it to me as soon as possible.

If this will be your first Kairos, please complete and print the attached TDCJ application. I recommend using a computer to complete it prior to printing. After typing it, you can print and fax to:
(936) 437-2852, ATTN: Merline Kellum
You can also print, then fill it out by hand. If you do it this way, DO NOT FAX IT. Instead mail it to:
Volunteer Services
2 Financial Plaza, Suite 472
Huntsville, TX 77340
•Either way, do not leave any portion blank. If the question does not apply, write N/A in the space provided.
• Be sure to check the “Chaplaincy” box on the application.

TDCJ requires an on site training when you first become a volunteer. For dates and locations please check the TDCJ website at http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/documents/Volunteer_Training_Schedule_City.pdf
We hope to get a TDCJ training the Thursday of our Kairos weekend, but since this hasn't been scheduled yet, I can not guarantee it.

If you have a specific question regarding your eligibility, you are encouraged to contact  TDCJ Volunteer Services at 936-437-3026. I highly recommend calling to get instructions before completing any online retraining. You can also call to check your current status if haven't served with us in a while.

Kairos 36 Team, this next weekend is our 2 day reunion. Usually we show a video on Sunday. However sometimes Sundays are cancelled so make every effort to show up Saturday between 7:45am and 8am. We are usually done before noon. Also know that many Kairos volunteers are active in their churches so are unable to attend on the Sunday of a 2 day reunion. If you have the ability to make it Sunday, please make every effort to do so. Even if you can only make it for a couple hours either day, your presence is an encouragement to those you formed a bond with on Kairos 36.
